The Overland Relief Expedition
– an audiovisual and interactive concept album

In 1897, 8 ships with a total of 265 whalers were icebound near the northernmost point of Alaska. A handful of brave human beings set out on a ~2,400 km journey through the Arctic tundra to save these whalers from starvation – with the help of 448 reindeer.

Henrik Stelter designed a website on which this adventure can be experienced audiovisually and interactively and integrated photographs and reports of contemporary witnesses and complement them with own works.

The music reflects key scenes of the journey and the ubiquitous presence of the Arctic. He supplemented this work additionally with a cassette tape and a poster. The poster acts as a protective cover for the cassette.

With this project Henrik wants to commemorate this insane undertaking as well as the people and animals involved.
